  • You can take each subject once every 90 days.
  • Important: One form of government-issued identification will be acceptable for CLEP test-takers. The primary identification must be valid and current, must bear the test-taker’s full name in English language characters, and must contain a photograph and a signature. If you fail to present appropriate ID, you will not be tested.
  • Scratch paper and pencils will be provided.

  • If you have a learning or physical disability that would prevent you from taking a CLEP exam under standard conditions, you may request special accommodations. Arrange to take the exam on either a regularly scheduled test date or at a specially scheduled administration. For details, please contact the CLEP test administrator, Carla James at carla.james@education.edu or 540-767-6010 before you register.

Distance Education Exam Proctoring

If you attend an out-of-state college or university, a college that does not provide testing services, or participate in a distance learning program, the Educational Testing Center will proctor your exam. If documentation is required from our office as an agreement for proctoring services, it is advised that all paperwork be brought or faxed (540-767-6012) to our office well in advance of the test date.

The RHEC Educational Testing Center is a member of the Consortium of College Testing Centers (CCTC), a national group of college and university test centers that has come together to support distance learning by offering secure, comfortable testing conditions. This service is for a fee broken into two types based on proctoring (test) length. For exams 0-4 hours or untimed, the fee is $28.50 per examination. For exams 4-8 hours, the fee is $53.50 per examination. The fee is payable online when you register and schedule your exam.

After you register, have your school send the exam materials to Deborah Snellings-Pate via email, fax at (540) 767-6012, or mail to Educational Testing Center, Roanoke Higher Education Center, 108 N. Jefferson St., Suite 413, Roanoke, VA 24016. We will verify when we receive your exam materials.
