Scheduling a NURS Entrance or Departmental Exam via ProctorU

Nursing - HESI Entrance Exam (A2): 

This exam is required for students seeking admission into the ADN (LPN to RN), BSN, or MEPN Nursing programs at WKU. It evaluates general knowledge in areas of Anatomy & Physiology, Math, and Reading Comprehension.

  • Testing is offered based on admissions cycles in March - May, July - August, and October - January with breaks in February, June, and September.  Check the website often to see what dates become available as they are only scheduled about two weeks in advance.
  • LPN to RN program admission deadlines (Application and testing scores MUST be submitted to Nursing Department by these dates):
    • Fall admission: June 1st
    • Spring admission: September 1st
    • Summer admission: February 1st
  • BSN and MEPN programs admission deadlines (Application and testing scores MUST be submitted to Nursing Department by these dates):
    • Fall admission: February 1st
    • Spring admission: September 1st

Nursing Departmental Credit exams provide licensed practical nurses (LPNs) the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge of required nursing content. Testing is offered three times per year:  March through April, June through July, and October through November.

  • A departmental credit exam may be attempted only ONE time. Testing is offered three times per year:  March through April, June through July, and October through November.
  • LPNs are eligible to take this exam only AFTER receiving testing approval by the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
  • Each test has an 120-minute time limit, and you must have a minimum score of 850 to pass the exam.

The deadline dates will differ depending on platform and availability so please pay careful attention to end dates when registering.

ProctorU Registration Instructions:

Reservations and payments will be made directly through ProctorU.  

The exams are through ProctorU Live+.  There will be a proctor available during your session for assistance.  

If you already have a ProctorU account with WKU as your enrollment institution, you’ll need to add a new enrollment with Elsevier-HESI in order to schedule and take your Entrance A2 exam.

There is a two step process for registering for a NURS Entrance (A2) or Departmental Credit exam via ProctorU. 

Step 1: 

A. Create an Evolve Account: https://evolve.elsevier.com/

If you already have a ProctorU account with WKU as your enrollment institution, you’ll need to add a new enrollment with Elsevier-HESI in order to schedule and take your Entrance A2 exam.

B. Students will then redeem the Course ID to review results and remediation (if available). 

  • HESI A2 Course ID: 159640_wuniversity10_3001
  • HESI Departmental Exam Course ID: 159640_kharris5_3001

Step 2: 

After creating your Evolve Account, you will schedule via ProctorU. If you do not have a ProctorU account, you will
create one.  Refer to: https://www.proctoru.com/portal/elsevier-hesi for full detailed instructions on how to set up an account, register for your exam, pre-check equipment, and receive  important exam day information. 

When registering select the following:

  • Institution - Elsevier-HESI
  • Term- Western Kentucky University
  • Exam 

On test day, you will log into ProctorU directly, and the proctor will launch the exam for you. 

After testing, to retrieve exam results or completed remediation/learning packs- 

  • Log into Evolve.
  • Click the HESI NG course from your My Evolve page to access results and remediation.
  • Note: Remediation/Learning Packs will only need to be completed by those taking the NURS Departmental Credit Exams.
